Strong Workplace Cultures Begin with Training Your Managers!

If you want a strong workplace culture, engaged employees, and reduced legal risk, here is one simple truth – you have to train your managers.

Far too often organizations promote someone into a supervisor or team lead role because they were great at their job. Great salesperson. Great technician. Great operator. And then we hand them people responsibility with little to no HR training. Then when something goes wrong, we blame them. That is not a leadership problem. That is a training problem.

Your managers and supervisors need to understand the basics of HR. Not to become HR experts, but to avoid preventable mistakes and to lead effectively – from interviews to feedback! When managers give regular feedback, performance improves faster. Trust increases. And problems get corrected early, before they turn into documentation issues or terminations.

And here is the bigger picture. If you want employees who are engaged, who are committed, who are truly “in it to win it” with you, leadership matters. Employees experience your company through their direct supervisor.

So instead of blaming managers for high turnover or poor morale, ask this. Did we train them? Did we teach them what compliant interviewing looks like? Did we show them how to coach instead of criticize? Did we equip them to lead people, not just manage tasks?
