In Mohamed v. Society for Human Resource Management (No. 1:22-cv-01625, D. Colo.), a federal jury awarded former employee Rehab Mohamed $11.5 million in December 2025 for race discrimination and retaliation.
The verdict included $1.5M in compensatory and $10M in punitive damages against the HR organization with SHRM subsequently filing for a new trial, alleging a “poisoned” verdict 12.
Key Aspects of the Case:
- Allegations: Plaintiff Rehab Mohamed, a “brown-skinned” Egyptian Arab, alleged her supervisor subjected her to excessive scrutiny, exclusion from meetings, and retaliation.
- Retaliation: Evidence indicated that termination documents were drafted the same day the plaintiff filed a retaliation complaint.
- Key Finding: The jury found SHRM liable for violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act 4.
