Get your tech team involved, especially if these two paragraphs go over your heard (like they did for me!). AI tools generally follow strict protocols to avoid retaining user data long-term. However, unless the AI is set up with strict privacy standards, there is a slight risk that sensitive data could be inadvertently retained in temporary memory, which may raise concerns about data leakage, especially in non-enterprise environments without enhanced security layers (Source: NIST AI Framework).
Companies using AI systems that process PII must comply with privacy regulations like GDPR in Europe and CCPA in California, which mandate strict controls around data use, storage, and processing. Failure to adequately protect PII in prompts can lead to compliance issues, fines, and reputational risks if sensitive information is mishandled (Source: GDPR Compliance Guidelines).
